like yes I am a person who is constantly reading, and whose identity & personal history are irrevocably tied to the concept of stories and my experiences as an ‘avid reader.’

but it’s still weird to me when people talk about their “love for books.” I spend 90% of my free time reading books (by choice! by free choice!) and most days I don’t even like books as a concept

not MOST books anyways. not books in general. like yes there are books I love and adore & books I feel mildly fond of & everything in between, but 9 out of 10 books i encounter i am utterly indifferent to. and the 10th one i despise utterly for being just. just truly awful. just Twilight levels of awful. and then presumably somewhere out there there’s the 11th book that I will utterly love if i can ever fucking FIND IT. books are a fantastic concept until you actually encounter a shelf full of them
