basking sharks are usually found pretty close to the surface of the open ocean, but in the winter they undertake a seasonal migration just like birds do!

in winter, basking sharks relocate to the middle depths of the ocean about 3,000 feet down and just chill there for a few months, only returning to the surface full-time in the spring! just exactly like birds.
