I think one of the reasons why some people have issues with sex scenes in movies is because titillation in mainstream american film is often just so devoid of any semblance of sensuality. the on screen sexuality is often either depicted as an alien and sometimes even demeaning power play or piles of beige playdough passionlessly slapping against eachother. they don't even show you the cock.

Also, sexy needs wants, hunger, sensuality, desire, it means developing your characters.

And: It means addressing female desire which is a film taboo.

(as for gay characters, wow they are far from being allowed to have desires in mainstream media.)

tl;dr: to write sexy you need to make your characters deeper than what is used for hollywood movies nowadays. they would need to be vulnerable.
