my great-aunt is a yemenite jew. her family moved to israel when she was a little girl, in the late 1940s, and she grew up in a refugee camp there where the conditions were horrible. her baby cousin, born shortly after their arrival in israel, was a victim of the yemenite children affair. the yemenite children affair was an incident spanning the late 1940s to early 1950s where babies were stolen from yemenite jewish families by the israeli government and given or sold to white jewish families. it is estimated that ONE IN EIGHT yemenite jewish babies in israel were stolen during this time period. this was basically a known secret for decades before the israeli government finally officially acknowledged it in 2016.
